At its second open meeting, scheduled for
3:30PM on Tuesday, October 10th, the Performance Analysis and
Information Standards (“PAIS”) Panel will address the journalist’s view
of information used by analysts. The essential question is:
What do journalists expect of the
information provided by analysts, in order to satisfy what the public
expects of journalists?
In this context, the Panel expects to return
to some of the issues of information integrity raised at its first meeting,
including controversial uses of “pro forma” numbers and the increasing
demand for nonfinancial performance measurements and other new “metrics.”
Attention will also be directed to the impact of Regulation FD on the types
of information available to analysts and journalists, and on the way the
information is used.
Chuck Hill, First Call’s director of
research and one of the most recognized commentators on analyst
perspectives, will be the meeting’s lead speaker. In his position as what
may be considered an analyst of analysts, Mr. Hill is uniquely familiar with
both the analyst and journalist viewpoints. The Panel is especially
interested in hearing his elaboration of recent comments on the need for
standard definitions of information and on evolving requirements for
professional recognition.
Open to the public and to the press, the
meeting is hosted by the New York Society of Security Analysts at its
conference facilities on the 44th floor of One World Trade Center, New York
City. Additional information can be found at the NYSSA web site:
