Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP 5th Annual Shareholder Activism Conference to Feature Leading Activists

October 27, 2014 11:06 AM Eastern Daylight Time

NEW YORK--()--The burgeoning power of stockholders is now firmly established in the global investment management industry. Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP ("SRZ"), adviser to many of the most recognized names in activism, is hosting its 5th Annual Shareholder Activism Conference on October 29 in New York. The event is by invitation only.

“fiercest shareholder activism campaigns and proxy contests in the market.”

Leading activists and the attorneys in SRZ's renowned shareholder activism practice are headlining the conference on panels including: "Current Developments in Shareholder Activism," "The Activists Speak" and "Anatomy of a Proxy Contest: Casablanca Capital and Cliffs Natural Resources."

Spearheading the conference are SRZ M&A partners Marc Weingarten and David E. Rosewater, co-heads of the firm's global shareholder activism practice, who were named "Dealmakers of the Year 2014" by The American Lawyer magazine, which highlighted their work on the "fiercest shareholder activism campaigns and proxy contests in the market."

Participants will also hear from Michael E. Swartz, SRZ partner who advises on the shareholder activism litigation handled by the firm; Jim McNally, SRZ International partner who leads the firm's shareholder activism practice in the U.K.; and M&A associate Kristen P. Poole, who along with Mr. McNally will discuss the findings of SRZ's 2014 Shareholder Activism Insight report, published biannually in association with Mergermarket, to be released at the conference.

In addition, the conference brings together industry leaders — including Joseph A. De Perio of Clinton Group, Inc., Donald G. Drapkin of Casablanca Capital, Shreyas Gupta of Sandell Asset Management, Daniel Lewis of Orange Capital, Scott Ostfeld of JANA Partners LLC, Brian L. Schorr of Trian Fund Management, L.P., Gregory P. Taxin of Spotlight Advisors, LLC, Gregg Feinstein of Houlihan Lokey, and Bruce H. Goldfarb of Okapi Partners LLC, among others — who will discuss a range of current issues facing shareholder activists and target companies alike.

"We are delighted to offer our clients the opportunity to hear first-hand from some of the top names in shareholder activism," commented Mr. Weingarten. This year's conference will incorporate information relevant to players active in both the U.S. and European activist markets. Earlier this year, SRZ expanded its shareholder activism practice into the U.K., where U.S.-based investors are increasingly turning their attention.

"With activism on the rise in the U.S. and Europe, with little sign of slowing down, we found it timely and important to incorporate European insights into the conference agenda," said Mr. Rosewater. SRZ has unparalleled expertise in the applicable corporate laws, securities laws, proxy rules and the current state of market practice on both sides of the Atlantic.

"Schulte Roth & Zabel lawyers have long provided counsel to shareholder activists, and as a result of that strategic advice, we have helped our clients achieve some great successes," commented Alan S. Waldenberg, chair of the firm's Executive Committee and chair of the Tax Group.

SRZ's Shareholder Activism Resource Center, built from the firm's high-level expertise and current state of market practice, is updated regularly and includes SRZ attorney-authored articles, alerts on cases and emerging rules and regulations, practice highlights, and industry news and publications.
