Request to Board for Information Needed by Investors

(July 1, 2003)

Copied below is the text of a July 1, 2003 letter urging the directors of Farmer Bros. Co. to provide public investors with material information concerning the health of the company's Chairman and his capacity to perform his duties.

The letter followed news reports in the June 23, 2003 issue of The Los Angeles Business Journal, titled "Chairman’s Illness Adds Twist To Insider Battle at Farmer Bros.", and the June 29, 2003 issue of The Daily Breeze (Torrance, California), titled "Family feuds over trusts, control of business."*

To the members of the board of directors of Farmer Bros. Co.:

It is assumed that you are aware of recent news reports concerning the health of the company's Chairman.  These differing reports raise many questions, and the company has not provided any information to answer them.

You should understand that the capacity of the company's Chairman to perform his duties is important to an investor's evaluation of Farmer Bros.  It would of course be equally important to know if someone else has become responsible for the Chairman's duties.

Under these circumstances, I urge you to provide public investors with the information they need.

                                                      Sincerely yours,

                                                      Gary Lutin
