Note: The newswire report copied below is based on an August 10, 2004 SEC filing by Franklin Mutual disclosing recent purchases of Farmer Bros. stock, increasing their holdings to 2,026,104 shares (12.6% of the total outstanding) from the 1,849,940 shares (11.5% of total) they have held since 2002.  (These percentages are based on the company's currently reported total of 16,075,080 shares outstanding.  Prior to this year, there had been 19,264,140 split-adjusted shares outstanding, and Franklin Mutual's 1,849,940 split-adjusted shares were 9.6% of that larger total.)

Franklin Mutual Ups Farmer Bros Stake To 12.6%

        WASHINGTON -- Franklin Mutual Advisers LLC increased its
stake in Farmer Bros. Co. (FARM) to 12.6%, according to an amended Schedule
13D filed Tuesday with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
        Franklin Mutual beneficially owns 2,026,104 Farmer Bros. common
shares, the filing said.
        On Dec. 9, 2003, Franklin Mutual reported a 9.6% Farmer Bros. stake.
        The company's shares closed Monday at $25.30.
        Farmer Bros. primarily roasts and packages coffee and sells it to
restaurants, hotels, fast-food outlets, convenience stores and hospitals.
