Forum Report: Preliminary Plans for July 18th Workshop Meeting

(June 29, 2007)

Sent: Friday, June 29, 2007 12:46 PM
Subject: Plans for Verizon Forum "Workshop" meeting

Copied below is a preliminary summary of a "Workshop" meeting for the new Verizon Forum program, intended to develop recommendations for the information that will be presented to Forum participants for their analysis of management's confidence in the company's reported business strategies.

It should be noted that the Workshop process is intended to be very informal and flexible.  While the number of people attending its working session on July 18th must necessarily be limited, I will welcome the interest of anyone who wants to help define the information requirements, and we will plan additional meetings or other communications adaptively.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions of issues that should be addressed, or of expertise that will be relevant.

Workshop Meeting

for the

Verizon Shareholder Forum

Date

Wednesday, July 18, 2007

Time

[afternoon, time to be determined]

Location

[midtown Manhattan location, to be determined]

Attendance

Up to twelve invited participants, representing a range of investor and professional perspectives, with at least two places reserved for corporate executives who can provide expertise concerning the information that can be made available by the company

To Be Decided: Information Requirements

The purpose of the meeting is to develop a list of specific information requests for Verizon, based on

(a)      what’s needed by investors for them to determine how executive compensation incentives relate to the achievement of the company’s reported business performance objectives, and

(b)      what can be most efficiently provided by the company, publicly, to satisfy this investor interest.

Workshop Participation

The “Workshop” is intended to be an informal collaboration process, allowing a relatively small number of participants to make use of their shared expertise to develop practical recommendations.  It should be understood that participants will not be publicly identified without their permission, and that any Forum reports of Workshop recommendations will be attributed only generally to the Workshop.  A Workshop participant may, however, request the attachment of individual comments to any Forum report of Workshop recommendations, identifying the author as requested either specifically or by professional interest.

Efforts will be made to include participants offering the following perspectives:

w        fund managers with various views of Verizon’s strategic objectives

w        sell-side analysts with various views of Verizon’s strategic objectives

w        retiree shareholders familiar with Verizon planning, compensation and reporting practices

w        Verizon management representatives familiar with the company’s relevant reporting capabilities and investor relations practices

w        professionals with compensation or reporting expertise, based on Workshop requirements to be determined

Suggestions concerning the Workshop meeting’s attendance or agenda should be addressed to the Forum's chairman, Gary Lutin (telephone 212-605-0335; email gl@shareholderforum.com).  For additional information about the Verizon Forum or its Conditions of Participation, see the program web site: www.shareholderforum.com/vz
