Request for Statement Describing Chairman's Condition

(July 8, 2003)

The letter copied below was sent in response to a July 3, 2003 letter in which a company executive stated that news reports about the Chairman's condition had misquoted an attorney representing Mr. Farmer.

The current letter refers to Mr. Lutin's July 1, 2003 letter to the company's board members, and to that letter's request for a public statement from the company to address the questions raised by "differing reports" about the health of the company's Chairman.

Dear Mr. Simmons:

Thank you for your July 3rd letter, which I saw yesterday after the holiday week-end.  I'm glad to know that you appreciate the concern expressed in my July 1st letter about the "differing reports" of the Chairman's condition.

Your letter will of course be distributed to participants in the Forum for Farmer Bros. shareholders.  If you provide me with a copy of the lawyer's letter from which you quoted a phrase, that will be similarly distributed.  In any event, I encourage you to seek and report a more specific statement from the lawyer about what he actually told the newspaper or others.  Most investors will be interested in the substance of what he said, rather than in whether some of the words may have been misquoted.

What's really needed, though, as indicated in my July 1st letter, is a public statement from the company itself describing the Chairman's health and capacity to perform his duties.

Finally, since you receive all of the Forum distributions, I hope you will continue to let me know when you have any comments or opinions that may be relevant to your company's shareholders.

                                                      Sincerely yours,

                                                      Gary Lutin
